TIM BENGEL
ÜBER DER KUNSTLER
LIVES AND WORKS IN ESSLINGEN, GERMANY
Tim Bengel is a German contemporary artist recognized for his distinctive gold-and-sand collage technique and interdisciplinary approach. He studied Art History and Philosophy at the University of Tübingen and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Berlin, while living and working near Stuttgart. At 18, Bengel won a student art prize that set him on his creative path and soon gained global recognition as one of the first German artists to harness social media, with his videos reaching over 500 million views. In 2017, the same year one of his works became one of Facebook’s most-watched videos, he had his professional breakthrough with a solo exhibition in New York. His works, marked by meticulous detail and a black-white-gold aesthetic, have since been exhibited internationally. In 2019, he created his first large-scale installation, ‘Flower-Skull-Cemetery’ in Berlin, followed in 2021 by his first sculptural work, ‘Who Wants to Live Forever?’-a solid gold avocado bagel. In 2023, Bengel curated the SUPERKRAUT Festival at StadtPalais Stuttgart, uniting international artists and Michelin-starred chefs, and presenting Germany’s first 3D-printed public sculpture: a 2.5-meter stainless steel cabbage. As part of the project, he also designed a VfB Stuttgart Bundesliga jersey, marking a pioneering collaboration between contemporary art and football. With a strong digital presence and a growing portfolio of interdisciplinary projects, Bengel continues to explore the role of art within cultural and public contexts.
