For the One Shot Award, you will be asked to submit: your personal details (name, home address, phone number, social media, website..) a CV a list of the exhibitions you took part in (if applicable) an artist statement. 1 artwork (image, title, year of production, dimensions)

In which language can I submit my application?

We are a Berlin-based gallery working with artists from all over the world. Consequently, we prioritise applications in English or in German.

Should my work be available for sale?

All the submitted artworks should be available for sale and for exclusive consignment with BBA. However, we understand that your work might be sold between the application process and the results of your nomination for the shortlist. If this is the case and you are shortlisted, this will be discussed with our curation team.

I am represented by another gallery - can I still apply?

Yes, you can still participate in one of our Open Calls if you are represented by a gallery. However, please keep in mind that your submission should only contain artworks that are available for sale and not consigned with another gallery.

My work is contracted to another gallery - can I still apply?

Please keep in mind that your application should only include works that are not exclusively contracted with another gallery. If you are selected for the exhibition, this will be strictly stipulated in the participation agreement you will be asked to sign. If your work is produced in a limited edition, you can still apply with one edition number that is not consigned elsewhere.

Edit your application

How many works can I submit?

As the name suggests, you can only submit one piece of work for the One Shot Award.

Can I edit my application?

Yes, you can edit your application. To do so, you should log in to your account again and revise your submission. However, this is only possible in certain circumstances: You can only make changes before the final application deadline. You can only make changes to your application if you haven’t submitted it. In the BBA Prizes platform, you can ‘submit’ your application if you do not wish to modify it later on. If you have submitted it, you won’t be able to change it anymore.

I am about to upload my work. What size should the image be?

You can submit the image of your work in either jpg, png or heic format. This image should be no more than 3MB per file.

What should I include in my CV if I have no exhibition history or artistic background?

It is important to us that all applicants receive the same treatment. The number of exhibitions you have taken part in, your education or your professional background do not affect the jury’s ranking system. Your CV is only requested to get to know you better and to understand the context of your practice.

What is the ‘Submit’ button on my application page for?

The ‘Submit’ button that you can see on your application page enables you to freeze your application once you are satisfied with it and no longer wish to modify it. Your application will then be submitted, and will be shared as such to the jury after the deadline. Your application is unsubmitted if you haven’t clicked the ‘Submit’ button on your application page. It means that your application can still be edited. However, please be aware that it will automatically be submitted after the application deadline.

I cannot log in to my account. What should I do?

Once you have paid the entry fee, you should receive an email containing a temporary password. Use this password to log in to your account and set a new one for future use. If the password is not recognised by the BBA platform, click on 'Password forgotten' to reset it. If you have not received an email containing a temporary password, please contact our team via our contact form below.

Results & Exhibitions

How and when will I be informed about the final decisions?

If you have been longlisted or shortlisted or if your application has not been successful this time, you will be notified via the email address of your BBA account. Results are typically announced 2 to 6 weeks after the deadline. Please be aware that due to the high number of applications received, no feedback will be provided.

What is the difference between the Longlist and the Shortlist?

The Longlist consists of 50 photographers who have been preselected by our jury. These photographers will be promoted on our website and on our social media, and receive a certificate of nomination. From these 50 photographers, 20 will then be chosen to be part of the Shortlist. The shortlisted photographers will also receive online promotion and will be part of the exhibition, in Berlin.

I am Longlisted. What does it mean?

First of all, congratulations! Being longlisted among a huge number of applicants from all over the world is a fantastic achievement. Being longlisted means that your work has been recognised as excellent by our jury, and has been considered worthy of being part of the 50 best applications we received. You will be notified via email and a digital certificate of your nomination will be sent to you. Your longlisted nomination will also be promoted on our website and social media platforms. At this stage, the BBA team may get in touch with you to discuss further details of your application and ask you questions about your work on behalf of the jury. After that, the jury will make a final selection of the 20 photographers that will exhibit at BBA Gallery in Berlin (unless specified otherwise).

I am Shortlisted. What does it mean?

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS! Being shortlisted means that you made it to the top 20 applications of this edition. The jury loved your work and would like to see it displayed at our gallery in Berlin. This opportunity will also allow you to compete for the Award you entered and maybe win a cash prize, an Artsy profile and more! Being shortlisted implies that you will be closely in touch with the BBA team to organise the production of your work. You will also benefit from a promotion on our website and social media platforms.

I have been shortlisted and I will exhibit, what should I expect?

The duration of the exhibition will be approximately 1 week. It will take place at the BBA Gallery in Berlin (unless specified otherwise). The exhibition might involve an opening event, the Award ceremony, a closing event and other special events spread throughout the duration of the show. It is a great opportunity to share your work with our local network and the Berlin art scene, but also to exchange with other artists and art professionals from all over the world. For this reason, we strongly encourage you to come to Berlin to attend these events. However, attendance is not compulsory and won’t affect your place in the competition.

Where and when will the exhibition take place? How long will it last?

Where? The exhibitions will take place at the BBA Gallery in Berlin (unless specified differently). When? The exact date varies each year and for each competition. How long? The exhibitions will last approximately 1 week.
